Chocolate Crescent Rolls

New YouTube video is up! Watch me make this over on my YouTube channel Faith, Food and Family ! Chocolate Crescents Ingredients: 1 can of crescent rolls mini chocolate chips powdered sugar First I unrolled the crescents into their triangles. I think the container had 8 in there. Then I sprinkled the mini chips over the triangles, leaving the tip uncovered. I also pressed these in a bit. It helps them stay in place a bit more. Just roll up as usual and bake as directed on the can. When they are done, sprinkle with powdered sugar. Aren't these so pretty? They look like an elegant pastry and they're so simple! I could almost see these sitting in a bakery! Hope you enjoy!

Peanut Butter Cup Trifle

New YouTube video is up! Watch me make this over on my YouTube channel Faith, Food and Family ! This is so good! It is addictive and very yummy. It's also pretty economical and feeds a lot. It's great to take to a get together. It also helps that it's super easy to put together! Peanut Butter Cup Trifle Ingredients: 1 box brownie mix (plus ingredients to make these) 2 small boxes instant pudding mix (chocolate fudge or chocolate) 3 cups of milk 1 cup peanut butter 16 oz. Cool Whip 8 peanut butter cups Make brownies according to box instructions, cool and cut in to small pieces. Melt peanut butter microwave safe bowl, stir in pudding mix and milk (3 cups rather than 4 for a thicker result). In Trifle Bowl, layer 1/2 brownies, 1/2 of the pudding mixture, then 1/2 of the Cool Whip - repeat. Chop up peanut butter cups and place on top. Enjoy! I have used low fat brownie mix, light cool whip and 2% milk with wonderful results! Hope you ejoy!

A Civil War Recipe..... Oatmeal Pie

Princess came home with an assignment to to a Civil War project. There were several options but she and I always gravitate to the ones that involve cooking. So we chose to make a recipe from the Civil War time to share with her class. Can I just say how grateful I am for the internet when it comes to these school projects? We looked online and found many different recipes. I wanted one that used ingredients I already had on hand and hopefully one that would be a bit tasty. I finally found a forum where people were sharing Civil War recipes and someone had shared one for Oatmeal Pie from Charleston, South Carolina. Apparently, during the Civil War, pecans were in short supply. So oatmeal was subbed for pecans to make a sort of mock pecan pie. This recipe is very tasty and really easy. It does remind me of a pecan pie, but at the same time a little reminiscent of an apple crisp because of the oatmeal and the cinnamon. Very delicious! I'm hoping her class really enjoys it. She said th...

Strawberry Margarita Squares

My mom had us over for the 4th of July to have dinner. I made a dessert to bring along to share. I had these a couple of years ago and had always meant to make them but never did. They are a very refreshing dessert for summertime. You have the salty of the pretzel crust, sourness of the 1st layer from the margarita mix. Then the sweetness of the strawberry top layer. It's a perfect combo! So delicious! I meant to garnish these but didn't have a chance. They would look lovely with some whipped topping, sliced strawberry and maybe a small slice of lime on top. Strawberry Margarita Squares Crust: 2 cups pretzels (1 cup crushed) 1/2 cup butter, melted 1/4 cup sugar Filling: 2 pkgs. (8oz each) cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup thawed, frozen margarita mix, concentrate (non-alcoholic) 2 containers (8oz each) cool whip, thawed 1 pkg. (3oz) strawberry gelatin 1/2 cup boiling water 1 pkg (10 oz) frozen sliced strawberries in syrup fresh strawberry slices (for garnish-optional) lime slices ...

Heath Bar Crunch Cake

Oh my, this cake is so good. It's very rich but also a refreshing change from traditionally iced cakes. The cake is moist and gooey and the crunch from the heath bars is just a great addition. If you've never tried this cake before, you really need to make it soon. Heath Bar Crunch Cake german chocolate cake mix 1 can sweetened condensed milk 1 jar caramel ice cream topping 1 container of Cool Whip 3-4 Heath bars, crushed (or you can buy heath bits in the baking section) Bake cake as directed on the box. While the cake is still a bit warm, poke holes in the cake. Pour the condensed milk over the cake and then the caramel topping. When cake has cooled top with cool whip and crushed heath bars. Refrigerate. We ate this before it had time to get nice and cold. It was still heavenly! This is being shared at Tempt My Tummy Tuesday at Blessed with Grace . Happy Eating!

Cream Cheese Bars

I can't even begin to describe how good these are. They are so yummy. One of the ladies at MOPS always brings these to every meeting. They always disappear. These are really easy. Especially if you use the new uncut crescent rolls that is just a sheet of crescent dough. That makes it super simple! Please try these soon. You will be very glad that you did! Cream Cheese Bars 2 cans of crescent rolls 2 8oz bars of cream cheese, softened 1 1/2 cups of sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 cup melted butter or margarine 1 tsp. cinnamon Spray 9x13 pan with Pam. Mix cream cheese, one cup of sugar and vanilla in a mixer until well blended. Roll 1 tube of crescent rolls in pan and press seams together. Spread cream cheese mixture onto dough. Unroll 2nd tube of crescent rolls onto mixture. Pour melted butter on top (I used a brush to brush it around and make sure it got everything coated). Mix 1/2 cup of sugar with cinnamon. Then sprinkle on top of the butter. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. These could wor...

Guys Night Out

How often do your husbands have a night out with their friends? If your husband is like mine, not very often if at all. Guys just don't always make time for that kind of stuff. Or they might want to but just never set it up and organize it. Well, we got approved for for the Microsoft's Windows 7 House Party. So I knew it was a prime opportunity for a guys night out (or technically in since they all came to our apartment). We actually received a free copy of Windows 7 to try out and demo and so far we've really enjoyed it! By the way, I highly recommend signing up for House Party . It's a word of mouth kind of advertising. There are various house parties that you can sign up for. You usually receive a free product as well as coupons and goodies to give away at your party. There's no selling involved it's just a way to try a new product. So he invited a few guys over and I made some food. I made the Peanut Butter Cup Trifle and Buffalo Chicken Dip . The guys had ...

Innkeeper Pie

My friend, Wendy, asked me to come over yesterday and bake a couple of pies with her. She wanted to try a new recipe and asked me to join her. It was a lot of fun. I love baking and cooking with friends. First we made homemade pie crusts. I had never made one before so it was a nice learning experience. We used a different recipe than the one with the pie recipe and I will share it at a later date. I am going to try to do a step by step tutorial at some point. She found the pie recipe in the Hershey's Chocolate Lover's Cookbook. It looked very yummy and interesting in the picture and it was hard to tell for sure what the texture of this cake was going to be. We were very surprised when it forms a cake like top and then a fudgy filling on the bottom. It reverses during baking. I always think recipes that do that are so neat! This is delicious and I highly recommend that you try this recipe! It was so good and definitely different! Innkeeper Pie Ingredients: * PASTRY CRUST(r...

Chocolate Crescent Rolls and 100th post giveaway!

Wow! This is my 100th post! In honor of this momentous occasion I am going to share a yummy, chocolaty recipe. You must make these soon. They are so easy and so yummy! I got this recipe from a friend of mine. She also has a blog and here is her post about these yummy Chocolate Crescents ! She thought of these herself one day when wanting to have something chocolaty. She's one smart cookie because these are delicious! I used Pillsbury Reduced Fat Crescent Rolls. They ran these on sale really cheap with coupon awhile back and I had been debating on what to make with them. Last night I needed some chocolate and made these! Chocolate Crescents 1 can of crescent rolls mini chocolate chips powdered sugar First I unrolled the crescents into their triangles. I think the container had 8 in there. Then I sprinkled the mini chips over the triangles, leaving the tip uncovered. I also pressed these in a bit per Jena's advice. It helps them stay in place a bit more. Just roll...

Apple Crisp

I had some apples that weren't quite good enough to eat raw so decided to make an apple crisp. I have to say, I ended up messing this one up a bit. I had a friend over for lunch and was trying to hurry so that it would be done before we had to go pick our kids up from school. So I accidentally left out the brown sugar. I realized this when I pulled it out of the oven. So I just mixed in the brown sugar and baked it a little longer. It was good after that. I think this would have really been good if I had did it right the first time. Apparently I just can't bake under pressure (see my pumpkin pie incident ). LOL I only made half a recipe and agree with some reviews that the flour needs to be cut down. I had never made apple crisp before and felt overall this was a pretty good recipe. Next time I will make sure I add the sugar! LOL I'll also cut down the flour a bit. Apple Crisp IV 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 cups rolled oats 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon ...

Cracker Barrel Coca Cola Cake

Tonight we had our Mom's Night Out with MOPS and our theme was Christmas in July. So we all brought special Christmas themed dishes. It was a lot of fun! Our host even decorated her house up for the occasion. I decided to make Cracker Barrel Coca Cola Cake. It's one of my favorite cakes and very easy as well. Sorry the picture isn't the best. I hated to cut a piece before I took it to the get together. So I took a picture of it whole. It is very good though! Cracker Barrel Double Fudge Coca Cola Cake Ingredients: 1 C. Coca-cola 1/2 C. oil 1 stick Margarine 3 Tbsp. cocoa 2 C. sugar 2 C. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 eggs 1/2 C. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. vanilla Preparation: In a sauce Pan, Bring Coca-Cola, Oil, Margarine, and cocoa to a boil. Using what's in the pantry: Canned Pumpkin

I have had a big can of pumpkin in the cabinet for while now. So I thought about pumpkin muffins, but then decided why not make Pumpkin Pie? So I did! I made a mix for two pies but decided to only bake one right then. I was going to bake the other one later. This turned out to be a very good thing and I will explain why. Since my daughter has been begging to help me in the kitchen I decided to let her help. Then the boys kept coming in and out of the kitchen and I was a bit stressed. The kitchen is kind of my zone and the more people in an out of it while I'm cooking just stresses me out. We did finally get the one pie in the oven. However, while it was baking I remembered I never put the sugar in it! When it was done I tasted it and it's amazing what that sugar does for pie! LOL I was really disappointed but then added sugar to the next batch of mix and baked it up Tuesday night. It turned out very yummy! I'm trying to get over being stressed out so easily in the kitchen ...

No Bake cookies

I love these chocolaty, peanut buttery no bake cookies. You can't get much easier than these and so yummy. I have tried a few different recipes and this is my favorite. This one always sets up for me. I usually just pour it all out on a cookie sheet that I've covered with wax paper. Then break it apart into pieces. But for you guys, I made a few cookies for a nice picture. :) No Bake Cookies 2 cups sugar 4 tbsp of cocoa (I usually make these heaping because you can't have too much chocolate) 1 stick of butter (this time I used smart balance 50/50 sticks and they worked great!) 1 tbsp of vanilla (I always leave this out. You can add if you like but vanilla is expensive and I'd rather save it for something I can really taste it in. I've never noticed a difference with/without it) 3 cups of oatmeal (I use 1-minute quick oats) 1/2 cup of milk 1 cup of peanut butter (I like to use crunchy sometimes) In a heavy saucepan, bring to a boil the sugar, cocoa, butter and ...

Oooey Gooey German Chocolate Brownies

Our Sunday School class got together Friday night to celebrate one of our sweet sister's birthday. So I brought brownies but decided to make them a new way. They were really delicious! Especially while they were still warm. But divine leftover as well! German Chocolate Brownies 1 box of brownies (9x13, family size box- I used low fat) 1 can of coconut pecan frosting (german chocolate) 1/2 cup of chocolate chips ingredients for brownies (on the box) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 pan. In a large bowl, empty the brownie mix. Add chocolate chips and toss them around in the mix. Then add ingredients for brownie (mine were oil, water and one egg but your box may vary). Mix well. Pour into pan and bake for time on box. Mine was 28 minutes. Then while the brownies are still hot, spread frosting over them. I used the whole can. Serve and enjoy! I had such a good time at the party! Lots of fun fellowship and yummy food! Then we played pictionary and that was a lot of fun. It was...

The gift of baked goods

I have a wonderful friend who watched my 3 year old so that DH and I could spend some time together yesterday. We ran some errands and took advantage of the $4.99 breakfast buffet at Shoney's. We really just enjoyed being out together alone. It's been hard for us to do that much. It's something that we need every now and then. We were so grateful that I wanted to do something to thank her. So I baked her a batch of blondies. These things are absolutely addictive. Especially when they are warm from the oven. I got this recipe from another friend of mine. Blondies 1 cup of flour 1/2 t baking powder 1/2 t baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1/3 c butter, softened 1 c brown sugar 1 egg 1 t vanilla 1/2 c walnuts 1/2 pkg of mini chocolate chips I just mix everything but the nuts and chocolate chips together. When you get it mixed well, then add the nuts and chips. Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes in an 8x8 greased pan. These are so wonderful! I think baking or cooking something for someone ...
