Maybe maple syrup or molasses(prob not, kinda bitter) would be a substitute? Not sure if this is a northern or southern recipe, the south had lots of sugar on hand and the north had more access to maple syrup.angelDecodedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18258601032450174312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945220652356407003.post-75379992514910402402016-05-20T00:24:49.335-05:002016-05-20T00:24:49.335-05:00Very Nice Blog:) Thanks for sharing .Very Nice Blog:) Thanks for sharing .Bingohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03721741814773977985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945220652356407003.post-6340083095388397652015-06-26T22:04:57.991-05:002015-06-26T22:04:57.991-05:00Hello, I've been blog hopping and I stumbled a...Hello, I've been blog hopping and I stumbled across your blog. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. Every now and then, I treat myself to a new cookbook. The one you're describing sounds like a book that I'd love to have in my collection in my kitchen so thanks for sharing. I'm glad I found your blog today, I really enjoyed the visit. I have checked and found that Karo Corn Syrup was introduced in 1902. I googled the corn info and corn.org has the history of corn products being used in America. I would have probably used something other than corn syrup in this recipe. Benne cookies were popular during the US Civil War. I have cooked up stews, hardtack, apples-n-onions, eggs with bacon, seasonal fruit, and bring loaves of bread.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945220652356407003.post-59726064493360815192014-07-24T00:30:03.747-05:002014-07-24T00:30:03.747-05:00bronxbutter, Thank you for the comment! My kids are finishing up their last bit of summer vacation and I haven't had as much time to devote to extra recipes. However, next week they'll be in school and I already have a recipe pulled from each book to make. So look for those to come along soon. I hope your family are well, especially your son.

Just a suggestion: your cookbook reviews would be more impact full if you tested a few recipes. Then you could speak to the final product and whether or not the recipes actually work.

These are the tenets of a good cookbook review and what people look for if they are going to take your review seriously. bronxbutterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02088961914509643607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945220652356407003.post-34636082444929726052014-01-26T12:10:13.444-06:002014-01-26T12:10:13.444-06:00Love the Duggars! I made 3 batches - 1 was with the chunky cut hashbrowns (cause I bought the wrong type in my hurry at the grocery) - There was only enough leftover to have a taste for my lunch. For my cheeses I used both a mild style and an extra sharp (white) type cheese which gives the dish an added aspect of flavor.Amy Mnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3945220652356407003.post-30589141633570568242011-10-12T09:19:58.660-05:002011-10-12T09:19:58.660-05:00This is my fool-proof recipe for pie crust, made w...This is my fool-proof recipe for pie crust, made with ingredients you always have on hand.(I even use it for a potpie by pressing the dough onto waxed paper and putting on top of dish)

1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp sugar
2 T. milk
1/2 c. oil
Stir together and press on bottom of pie plate.

That's it!
