Cookbook Review: The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery Cookbook

I recently received The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery Cookbook by Alexe Van Beuren with recipes by Dixie Grimes to review from Blogging for Books . I'm planning on making a recipe from it to share with you a bit later. I still need to make one from the Irish cookbook I reviewed, but it's summer vacation and school starts back soon so I haven't had a chance to do it yet. I will try to asap though. :) Anyway, back to the review. This is a very nicely bound book with a very neat cover that has a ridged feel to it. Very unique! The B.T.C. Old Fashioned Grocery is a store and cafe in Water Valley, Mississippi, owned by Alexe Van Beuren and her husband. Dixie Grimes is the chef for the cafe part of the store and cooks up many customer favorites. I have to say, that Mrs. Van Beuren made me fall in love with this little town. I literally read every bit that she wrote throughout this book, falling more and more in love with this town and it's people. I even had my husband d...

Lowes Build and Grow Kids Clinic

On Saturday, I took the boys to Lowes for the Build and Grow clinic. We were supposed to all go but hubby and daughter were very tired and stayed home. The boys had a great time! They built a pirate treasure chest. It was so much fun and we'll definitely be going to the next clinic they have. I highly recommend these clinics. Check with your local Lowes and see what they have going on. And make sure to get there a little extra early on the day of the clinic. They only have 50 kits each time and once they're gone, they're gone. They were out by 10:30am and it started at 10am. And best of all, it's free!

I'm baaaack!

I have really missed blogging and haven't really been able to do it lately. After my husband's surgery, we had some major extended family issues come up. Then our youngest got really sick and we were unsure what was wrong with him. He ended up having a UPJ obstruction in his ureter and had to have surgery. Not to mention the tests he had before the surgery to find out what the problem was. We have had a lot on our plate lately and I just haven't had time for blogging. I'm hoping that I can get back into the groove of things now. I missed you all and appreciate the messages I received! I also lost my job at mother's day out due to the enrollment being down and haven't been able to do much with my independent sales job due to so much going on. So our income has dropped by a good sized chunk. It was a more needed income too, not just extra money for me. It is amazing how God has blessed us this month. So far we've had enough money to cover things this month. A...

Update on Hubby

Well, my husband had his check up from surgery yesterday. They said he can resume normal activity. He still has pain but hopefully it will subside completely soon. I have to say that it has been a very rough two weeks. I got a small taste of what it is like to be a single parent. I honestly don't know how they do it. I wasn't even working during the day and I was exhausted. The kids were home all of the time for spring break and I know that was some of it. I'm sorry for neglecting my blog lately but I have had to catch up on so many things. I'm hoping that I will have more time this week. So things should get back to normal. Thank you for bearing with me. More yummy recipes to come. :) God bless, Amanda

Ripped Pants

Okay, I know what y'all are thinking and no I didn't rip my pants. LOL My 5 year old decided that he wanted to enlarge the very small hole in the knee of his jeans. Do you think he was trying to make some shorts? Maybe spring fever? I still can't believe he did that. It was bad and I was upset with him. However, I also know it's times like these that will be looked back on with much laughter. Things that will be recounted when my children are adults. Things that will make me long for the days when they are little. I found this poem online and really enjoyed it. Can I Carry You ? © Brad Anderson I guess that I can hold you one more time before you grow. And tell you that I love you so that you will always know. Please let me tie your shoe again. One day you'll tie your own. And when you think back to this time I hope it's love I've shown. Can I help you put your coat on? Can I please cut up your meat? Can I pull you in the wagon? Can I pick you out a treat? ...
