Bargain Meal of the Week- Food Lion

Photobucket

I am so excited to be a part of 5dollar Dinners new feature: Bargain Meal of the Week! I am a bit behind because of being so sick last week. My store is Food Lion and they run the ad from Wednesday to Tuesday. Tomorrow is the end of the ad so these prices will still be good until then. You can view your own weekly ad at Food Lion as prices can vary depending on location. I'm in middle Tennessee.

Here is my meal for the week.
1 pound of cube steak $3.49
2 packages of Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers (one corn, one broccoli and cheese) 2/$3
Total: $6.49

To make Country Fried Steak with Gravy

Most of the items to make the steak and gravy would be pantry items. So this meal would be probably around $8.50 total including those pantry items. My goal is to find more meals around the $5-7 dollar mark. However, even at $8.50 it's much cheaper than eating out! Or even frozen dinners for everyone (which can be $3 each).

My new meal for Food Lion will be up by Thursday. Hope you enjoy!
God bless,
Amanda

I will have to check out your weekly meals. We live near a Food Lion and sometimes I think they are cheaper than the commissary.

Vegetable Lo Mein

Okay, I already messed with the menu. :) I didn't get to get to the store in time to get the potatoes for mashed potatoes to have with the meatloaf. So I had to make the lo mein instead of the meatloaf yesterday. I kind of did my own thing but with help from this Chicken Chow Mein recipe and this Vegetable Lo Mein recipe. First I boiled the noodles. Then fried them in the skillet in a bit of oil. This really helped them not stick together. And I'm sure gives it more flavor. I took the noodles out of the pan and put them in a dish until it was time to add them back. I then started stir frying the veggies. Mushrooms, onions first. Then a bag of coleslaw mix (cabbage and carrots), some bean sprouts. I microwaved a small bowlful of broccoli and added that. I also added a can of sliced water chestnuts. I mixed one cup of chicken broth and a tablespoon of cornstarch and added that to the veggies. Then added a tablespoon of reduced sodium soy sauce and a tablespoon or so of oyster f...
